On one of our outings I got stuck in a mud hole. I backed up a couple of times and must have caught my rear brake line on something and ripped it off. (See Kaputniks article .) |

This image shows the ripped rear stainless steel brake line that is recommended for lifted Jeeps. As can be seen in this image, the inner part of the crimp is barely bigger than the head of a match. These lines do not have the strength of the standard Jeep lines and will therefore not withstand the same stress as a regular rubber brake hose. For Cherokees the best alternative is to obtain a YJ (for example '93) rear (or front) brake line. Of course, I could have perhaps ripped a factory rubber line as well under the above conditions. Other folks had similar breakage in the past. |
