These Jeeps are both 2 door versions.
The 86 red one has P225 tires and stock Up-Country 97 rear springs. The 88 maroon one has 31 x 10.50 BFG ATs and 5" lift. It was just cut. After removing the fender flares, the outer-most lip was cut off with a Sawzall. Then five cuts were made around the perimeter of the opening through the layer that has the bolt holes in it. This allowed me to fold back these pieces with a hammer. The end result is a small rounded lip all of the way around the wheel opening. It is pretty smooth and should not harm tires even if they do happen to come in contact with it.
Also note that a while ago I did a pretty severe
alteration to the lower body panel to the rear of the wheel opening. It is
folded so that the metal that used to be on the side of the body now runs
parallel to the ground, closing off the fender. Beneath that is some 1/4"
thick 2" square tubing that is part of my rear bumper. My goal here was
maximum clearance with heavy duty protection.
Based on how the 31s fit, I think there should be enough
room for the future 33 x 12.50 Super Swampers.

Some type of fender flare will eventually be installed
once tire fit is finalized and the body gets a paint job. |
